12/3 のセミナーでの文献紹介の担当は化学生態学研究室四年生の新井君で,紹介した論文は Tanaka, J. et al. Antheridiogen determines sex in ferns via a spatiotemporally split gibberellin synthesis pathway. Science 346, 469-473 (2014) でした.カニクサの造精器誘導物質であるアンセリジオーゲンが生体内に取り込まれてから活性型ジベレリンに変換されて造精器誘導活性を示していることを明らかにした報告でした.

化学生態学実験 III,研究室セミナー,輪読
11/10-21 の二週間は化学生態学実験 III が開講されました.今年度の受講生は 31 名でした.GC/MS があまりうまくいかずに少々手こずりましたが,その他は TA の学生さんたちのおかげでほぼ順調に実施することができました.

鍬耕祭,研究室セミナー,今週の輪読
11/1, 2 には阿見キャンパスで鍬耕祭が開催されました.11/1 には主に高校生を対象とした秋のオープンキャンパスと農学部の一年次生を対象とした阿見キャンパス見学会(フレッシュマン・ゼミナールという授業の一部)も同時開催され,研究室公開を実施しました.今年は筑波大の学園祭や大手予備校の模試と日程が重なってしまったという話もあり,研究室見学に来てくれた高校生は残念ながらゼロでした.しかし,一年次生は(授業の一環ということもあり)熱心に見学してくれました.また,何人かの研究室の卒業生と在学生のご父兄にも訪問していただきました.

新学期,タイからの客人,研究室セミナー,輪読
しばらくブログ更新をサボってしまいましが,大学は 10 月から新学期が始まり,2, 3 年生もキャンパスに戻ってきました.
研究室では 10 月初めにタイの Naresuan 大学の学生さん 2 名が実験するために滞在しました.わずか 5 日間だけの短い滞在で,ちょっと思うような結果も出なかったのですが,今後は共同研究することになりそうです.また,指導教員の先生とその同僚の先生方も最後の二日間は阿見キャンパスにお見えになりました.
夏休み中は研究の経過報告だけを行っていた生物制御化学・化学生態学の合同研究室セミナーも 10 月初めには中間発表を行い,今週からは論文紹介も始まりました.今週の文献紹介の担当は博士課程二年の堀江君で,紹介した論文は Huffaker, A. et al. Plant elicitor peptides are conserved signals regulating direct and indirect antiherbivore defense. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 110, 5707-5712 (2013) でした.植物の内因性ペプチドを介したシグナル伝達が食害昆虫に対する直接的および間接的防御機構に関与していることを報告した論文です.

停電 & 先週の輪読
9/6(土)は年に一度の電気設備点検のための停電がありました.停電に備えて,普段は常時稼働している NMR, LC/MS/MS, GC/MS のシャットダウンを行い,ついでに LC/MS/MS はロータリーポンプのオイル交換やインターフェース部の洗浄といったメンテナンスも実施しました.

水漏れ & 今週の輪読
8/29 に生物制御化学第二研究室の実験台の中を通っている水道管の腐食による破損が発生し,研究室が水浸しになるという事故が発生しました.大学の施設管理にお願いして水道の元栓を閉めてもらったのですが,事故発生時に担当の人が席を外されていたため,元栓を締めるまでにしばらく時間がかかってしまいました.その間にも水はどんどんあふれてきて,二研だけでなく一研,戸嶋先生の教授室,私の部屋,測定室,廊下がかなりの水浸しになってしまいました.学生さんたちと総出で排水作業を行って,三時間ぐらいで何とか復旧することができましたが,かなり大変な作業でした.すぐに水道屋さんが来てくれて,応急処置として破損した水道管を閉じてくれたので,他の場所では水道も使えるようになりました.
大学の研究室が入っている建物も築 20 年以上が経過しているため,いろいろガタが来ているようです.水道管も一斉点検や交換などの保守をした方が良い時期だと思うのですが,なかなか予算が取れないようで,簡単にはいかないみたいです.しかし,このような事故が休日や夜間,あるいは上の階(我々の研究室は一階)で起こっていたら,もっと大変なことになっていたはずなので,今後もちょっと心配です.

またしばらくブログ更新をさぼってしまいました.
8/2 には茨城大学大学院農学研究科の入試が実施されました.ここ二三年,大学院進学者が減少傾向ですので,なるべく多くの受験者に合格していただきたいところです.
茨城大学では 8/6 で前期の期末試験が終了して,三年生以下は夏休みに入りました.研究室は 8/13-17 は大学で決まっている一斉休業期間だったので,お休みにしましたが,それ以外は通常営業です.

オープンキャンパス,研究室セミナー,輪読
7/19(土)に茨城大学農学部オープンキャンパスが開催されました.研究室公開は 9:30-15:00 に行われ,午前中にはまずまずの見学者の方がお見えになりました.高校生の親子連れの見学者の方が多く,中には専門的なことにかなり突っ込んでくるお父さんもいらっしゃいました.研究棟の一階は生物制御化学研究室しかなく,やや寂しい雰囲気なので,例年見学のお客さんが少なめなのですが,今年も午後はあまりお客さんがいませんでした.
7/9 の研究室セミナーでの文献紹介の担当は四年生の渡邉さんで,紹介した論文は Rosseto, R. & Hajdu, J. Synthesis of phospholipids on a glyceric acid scaffold: design and preparation of phospholipase A2 specific substrates. Tetrahedron 70, 3155-3165 (2014) でした.ホスホリパーゼ A2 の活性測定などのプローブとして用いることができる基質アナログの合成研究についての論文です.
7/16 の研究室セミナーでの文献紹介の担当は化学生態学研究室四年生の横山さんで,紹介した論文は Paque, S. et al. AUXIN BINDING PROTEIN1 links cell wall remodeling, auxin signaling, and cell expansion in Arabidopsis. Plant Cell 26, 280-295 (2014) でした.AUXIN BINDING PROTEIN 1 の細胞伸長における機能を細胞壁のリモデリングに着目して解析した論文です.

日本農芸化学会 2014 年度大会,新年度,輪読
3/27~30 に川崎市の明治大学生田キャンパスなどで日本農芸化学会 2014 年度大会が開催されました.本研究室からは修士課程の濱名君と私がそれぞれ「イネのフィトアレキシンであるサクラネチンのいもち病菌による代謝」,「紫外線照射イネ葉からの新規ファイトカサン類縁体の同定」というタイトルで口頭発表を行いました.農芸化学会の発表は,一昨年は各自の PC を接続してプロジェクターで行い,昨年は紙に出力したものを OHC で映写して行いましたが,今年は USB メモリでパワーポイントファイルを持って行って,会場の PC を使う形式になりました.私が見ていた会場では USB メモリの認識に時間がかかって若干遅れたりしたときはありましたが,概ね順調に発表は行われていました.濱名君の発表は,事前のチェックや発表練習では気が付かなかったちょっと恥ずかしいスライドの間違いもありましたが,まあ何とか終了しました.
4 月になりましたので,年度が切り替わりました.今年度の研究室メンバーは博士課程 2 年生 1 名,修士課程 2 年生 1 名,1 年生 1 名,学部 4 年生 4 名の計 6 名となりました.人数的には昨年より 1 名増です.

卒論発表会,新しい冷却水循環装置,輪読
一ヶ月近くブログ更新をさぼってしまいました.この間,2/13, 14 に資源生物科学科の卒業論文発表会が開催されて,生物制御化学研究室の 4 名の四年生も無事に発表を終えました.例年のことですが,発表自体は練習の成果もあってそれなりに立派にできていましたが,質疑応答に関しては当日の緊張や日頃の勉強不足の影響でもうひと頑張りが必要だったように感じました.4 名中 3 名は就職,1 名は大学院進学予定ですが,卒論での経験を次の進路でも生かして頑張っていただきたいと思います.

一研でロータリーエバポレーターや遠心型エバポレーターのために使っている冷却水循環装置は非常に古い器械でもうモーターは使えなくなってしまっていて,別な循環装置を送液に利用することによって,だましだまし使っていました(こちらの記事参照).何とか予算の目処が立ったので,この装置を更新することにして,2/22 に新しい冷却水循環装置が納品されました.東京理化の CA-1115A という装置です.従来の装置に比べると非常に音が静かで省スペースになりました.
